Campus Mobility:
Campus Mobility solutions deliver wireless voice and data services to increase your productivity and accessibility wherever you roam on-campus or in-building. Powerful Avaya MultiVantage™ Communications Applications such as Communication Manager are extended to mobile workers via a dedicated wireless IP phone or PDA, over the wireless LAN. Regardless of your device preference, Avaya provides the efficiency-enhancing tools needed to stay connected as you move from place to place.
Overview:
Campus Mobility Solutions include a choice from a variety of products and services. For example, for those employees that desire a physical wireless phone with a dial-pad interface, Avaya offers the 3616 and 3626 IP Wireless Telephones. These phones act as Avaya Communication Manager endpoints over Wireless LANs.
Avaya also offers IP Softphone for Pocket PC to extend Communication Manager capabilities to handheld devices running Windows Mobile or Windows for Pocket PC operating systems. These are useful for those mobile applications requiring both voice and data services.
Avaya offers WLAN infrastructure optimized to support voice communications. The W310 WLAN Gateway and W110 WLAN Access Point support the QoS and roaming services required for voice, in an easy to manage, scale and deploy package.
Finally, Avaya Global Services provides a portfolio of planning, design, implementation and maintenance services that can complement the wireless products and complete the total Solution.
Many businesses and organizations have a substantial part of their workforce that needs to be accessible to others while roaming throughout the building. Examples include nurses and hospital technicians in the health care industry, and building security and building services personnel in general enterprise. These employees often need to respond to an emergency at a moment's notice and thus need to be in touch all of the time. A mobile hard phone or softphone (if on a PDA) that can move as they move and provide access to enterprise telephony features such as transfer, directory dialing, conference calling, and group page can be a vital communications tool.
Avaya Campus Nomad Solutions operate over the wireless LAN, rather than using a dedicated Radio Frequency network. Many organizations are enjoying the flexibility and productivity enhancements associated with WLAN technology, which have an advantage over dedicated networks in that they support multiple applications. Many organizations are beginning to leverage WLANs to support voice applications. Avaya can provide the wireless devices and client software, the WLAN infrastructure, the communications applications to extend to these mobile workers as well as the services to assure that the implementation is successful and secure.
Business Benefits
- Improved efficiency when away from desk.
- Lower costs by conveying calls over WAN.
- Make decisions faster and be more responsive by staying connected anywhere on campus.
Mobile Employees:
The RoadWarrior Mobile Solutions enable mobile employees to remain connected to the enterprise while roaming between locations. It provides one business number access to mobile employees, making them more accessible to clients, suppliers and colleagues.
Overview:
This solution extends the enterprise to the mobile workforce by leveraging the ubiquitous PSTN. Work is what you do, not where you do it! By utilizing tools such as Extension to Cellular, Find-me/Follow-me, Speech Access to Communication Manager and Unified Communication Center (UCC), mobile executives and revenue-generators can remain connected to business processes at all times from wherever they are. Organizations can, and have, used these tools to gain competitive advantage in their respective markets by being able to spend more time on their core business and less time on managing their disparate communications.
This solution is comprised of three primary product offers. First is the Extension to Cellular capability of Avaya Communication Manager. This application enables mobile workers to bridge their desk phone to a cellular phone, providing one number access to business calls via any digital cell phone and cellular service. In addition, calls in progress can be seamlessly handed from desk phone to cellular phone without dropping. In addition several other capabilities such as multiple call appearances, unified voice mail, and cellular phone access to Communication Manager features such as conference, transfer, drop, idle line pickup, and others while on a call.
Speech Access to Communication Manager takes advantage of the Avaya leadership in speech recognition technology to access certain telephony features via simple speech commands (e.g. "call Bob"). By dialing into this application from the user's cell phone, the power of Communication Manager is available to the mobile worker to efficiently contact other employees, take advantage of specialized call routing capabilities and otherwise leverage the enterprise telephony network.
Avaya Unified Communications Center builds upon this. It enables users to initiate conference calls and manage e-mails, voicemails and calendars using speech. With this application, an executive in transit doesn't need to boot up their laptop to access e-mail, or press buttons to interact with business processes, greatly improving her productivity.
Business Benefits
- Productivity while on the move.
- Universally connected, never handicapped by travel demands.
- Empowered to operate efficiently, anywhere.
Teleworker:
Introduction:
The Avaya TeleWorker solution helps employees maintain productivity and effectiveness away from the office by securely running enhanced communications applications on windows-based laptop PCs over the wired or wireless enterprise network.
Overview:
This solution provides customers with access to powerful Avaya Communication Manager telephony capabilities from a properly-configured laptop through Avaya IP Softphone. With wireless connectivity from the laptop to either an Avaya Wireless LAN or a Multivendor Wireless LAN, employees have mobile access to Communication Manager and other applications throughout the campus. The Avaya LAN/WAN Consulting service can plan the appropriate Wireless network solution. An optional Clarisys USB handset is available to those who desire a traditional handset and dial pad; other users will prefer a headset and microphone combination and the IP Softphone's dialing options. Additionally, VPN remote client software and Security gateways can be made offered to provide secure voice and data communications over wireless or public IP networks. In this fashion, not only can employees be mobile within the campus but also at their home office, customer location or hotel room - wherever they have an internet connection. The Avaya Enterprise Security practice can help design the security solution most appropriate to the customer's needs.
The primary business justification for this solution is the productivity gains attributable to the increase in voice and data network accessibility. No longer must an employee be tied to his or her desk to get work done. A recent study by Intel suggests that knowledge workers spend 50-70% of their time away from their desks. The Avaya TeleWorker solution makes it possible, with the right network connectivity, for these workers to access their desktop applications outside the enterprise.
Other studies suggest that wireless LAN access alone can lead to productivity improvements of between 10 and 20% for many enterprise workers (source: NOP World) . This can equate to a payback period of one to two months for wireless LANs alone (source: Lehman). Adding the productivity improvements associated with mobile IP telephony make the productivity gains become larger and the payback periods shorter. These productivity gains can result in dollar savings that can flow to the bottom line.
Mobile access is one of the growing trends in communications today. It is becoming a business imperative because it helps businesses remain competitive by providing their employees the tools to be more responsive to customers and clients and be more productive in their time spend away from the office.
Business Benefits
- By configuring employee laptops with IP Softphone enterprises can expand desktop portability to include not only data communications but also voice communications.
- One number access is available wherever there is a network connection - either wired or wireless - to improve employees' accessibility to co-workers, customers and others.
- Employees can be more productive while in conferences, meetings, in other offices, at home, or on the road because they can take the office environment with them - via a laptop computer.
- Secure voice and data access can be provided by deploying VPN remote client software.
- Collaboration with others is improved via timely receipt of and response to voice mail and email.
